Forget New Year Resolutions; it's time for a New Year Revolution!
Thursday, 07 Jan 2010

I would be the first to admit that I'm have been guilty of breaking "New Year Resolutions". Be it exercising more or eating less, some how or some way I'll end up giving up before the end of the first quarter. Or worst, sometimes I never start at all.

I've learnt through years of failing, that at the end of the day "the heart of the issue is the issue of the heart".

A resolution, as defined by the English dictionary is "a formal expression of opinion or intention". And in my opinion, that is exactly what's wrong with resolutions. The bible teaches us (in Jeremiah 17:9) that "the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"

Our resolutions fail because we allow our hearts to deceive us into being satisfied with having a good opinion or intention. What's more deceitful is that we only want to change the outwardly (Eg : more beautiful, more rich, more successful, more fit...), completely forgetting that one of man's most basic instinct is complacency. Before long, we either procrastinate or allow ourselves to be comfortable with our current predicament and a new year dawns again.

Now a revolution on the other hand, is defined in the English dictionary as a "sudden, complete or marked change in something". As you can see, while a resolution is built upon an idea of change, a revolution focuses on action and result. And while resolutions tend to focus on the superficial, revolutions are all about the real.

I pray, that in 2010, you will gear your heart towards a revolution and not just a resolution. And instead of the superficial, will you look into making some real changes? Know that through carrying out a revolution, you will definitely achieve that resolution.

And in case you've been disappointed too many times in the past by your own broken resolutions, I pray that you would take up courage and attempt again this year. Why not join me in my New Year Revolution -1,000 Campus Students in Acts Church by December 2010. Which is only achievable through real change in the lives of campus students and more students daring to live out a life of testimony in their campuses.

What’d ya say? The revolution is big enough for all of us.
